GIRL! We had the NT scan on July 2nd and everything looked great. The geneticist told us that based on the ultrasound and blood test, the risk of Down’s Syndrome is less than 1:6,300 and the risk of Trisomy is less than 1:10,000. Great news there. We also asked the tech at the end of the ultrasound if she would be willing to give us a guess on the gender. She scanned the wand over to the other side of the baby and showed us what she was looking at and how some people when they’re doing an early scan will tell people wrong because of a couple of specific problems that she demonstrated. After all of that, she said that she was about 80% sure that we were having another girl. She stressed that it was early and that it wouldn’t be prudent of us to go out and buy pink at this point, but she hasn’t ever been wrong so she’s pretty confident. I’ve been feeling all along that it was another girl so we’re pretty confident of her guess too. I told the tech that Zoey has been saying all along that it’s a little sister. She told me that she always asks the toddlers what they think the baby will be and she has never had a toddler be wrong! That’s a little creepy and also cool at the same time.
Zoey loves the idea of being a big sister. She likes to kiss my belly and talks about her little sister to her friends at daycare. I was laying on the couch a little while ago and my kitty, Bandit, was trying to lay on my stomach and I kept pushing him off. This happened several times before I was starting to get audibly annoyed by him. He climbed back onto my stomach and started to lay down and Jon looked at Zoey and said, “Zoey, Bandit is trying to squish the baby. Go get him!” She came running over to me and grabbed Bandit and pulled him off of my stomach and in her most authoritative tone said, “No no, Bandit! No Squish the baby! My little sister!” It was adorable and we all got a good laugh out of it.
Things have been mostly all quiet on the western front since then. I’ve been recovering from a sinus/upper respiratory tract infection which sucks when you can’t take anything for it. Nothing else new for now. The official anatomy scan is scheduled for three weeks from now so I suppose we just wait…
