Borderline Blood Pressure

So I had my monthly checkup with the OB today and after checking my blood pressure twice, they came to the determination that I was borderline hypertensive. My BP was around 138/68 each time they checked it. Obviously my diastolic numbers are great, but it’s the systolic number they’re really worried about. The main worry here is that hypertension is the first sign of preeclampsia, a very dangerous condition that occurs only during pregnancy and can cause stroke and even death of both mother and baby. One step at a time though… right now I just have to monitor my blood pressure on my own. If it ever gets above 140/90 then I have to call my doc and report it to her, but if it hovers around where it is now or lowers on its own then I’m just fine and we get to keep monitoring it.

  1. I'm glad they're keeping close watch on it. If it gets any higher would they put you on medication?

  2. No, I think that they would just put me on a more restrictive diet and possibly bed rest if it gets too high. I'm really no excited about that possibility, but I'm betting that it won't get to that point.
