I have decided that I want to try to have a natural childbirth. That means no epidural, no IV, no forceps, no vacuum suction, nothing. I want to wait until my baby decides that she is ready to come out into the world on her own time and don’t want to be induced. I don’t want my bag of waters broken or my membranes stripped. I want things to happen naturally. There are fewer complications both before, during and after birth and many other awesome rewards.
For all these reasons I have decided to take Bradley Method classes. They teach methods of how to become an educated consumer of medical care and get the things that you want out of your birth. They teach you all about the process of birth and the stages that you will go through. They teach methods of coping with the pain that you feel and how to best prepare your body for going through the whole process. There’s a lot of other stuff that they cover as well, but there’s just too much to list.
I LOVE my class so far. The instructor is awesome and has done this whole process 4 times herself. She has been teaching for something like 16 years and really knows her stuff. I feel so much more empowered with each class that I go to.
Natural childbirth isn’t for everyone. In Utah there’s something like a 95-98% epidural usage rate! I certainly meet lots of opposition when I tell people that I want a natural childbirth, but I’m determined to make it happen. Now to find out if my OB is in the same court or if I’ll need to switch to a midwife… more on that next week after my appointment.

I'm right there with you! I first heard about bradely (and have started reading the book) but there are also a few others I'm considering like hypnobabies (I wish I could take all of them but they're pretty expensive courses). Have you watched Business of Being Born, you can view it on youtube and there is an awesome website called mybestbirth.com. Let me know what your Dr. thinks. I've read that mine isn't very natural friendly but my husband is oh so scared of me switching to a midwife because I was high risk.
